Guardian/Godparent Application

Recommendations;

Being a godparent for an adoptive parrot is truly an honor, privilege, and a big responsibility.

The designated godparent needs to be familiar with all aspects of the parrot as soon as possible. The godparent will need to know all of the parrots needs and idiosyncrasies, and be ready to take over care of the parrot in an emergency. In addition, a godparent must earn the parrots trust.

Basic Qualifications to be a Godparent:

  • Must meet the same criteria as the adopter other than being a veteran
  • Be at least 28 years old and the Head of your household
  • Must reside at a different location than the adopter
  • Must be prepared to take over care of the parrot in case of any minor emergency or major catastrophe the godparent
  • Must be familiar with the parrot by visiting it regularly
  • We recommend that your godparent live within a 3 hour drive of your location
  • We recommend that a godparent works fewer than 50 hours a week

Basics Responsibilities of a Parrot’s Godparent:

We recommend that the godparent visits the adopted parrot on a regular basis.

Godparents need to have a copy of the parrot’s veterinarian’s information; name, address, phone number, and client’s identification number for the veterinarian’s office. In addition, the godparent needs to be added on to the parrot’s veterinary record, and authorized to allow any treatment to be given if deemed necessary.

Godparents need to have our bird rescue’s address and contact phone numbers.

Godparents must promise to look after the parrot in case of any emergencies for any amount of time, and agree to keep this parrot for life if deemed necessary. In the event of an emergency, a godparent must understand that it may be necessary to sacrifice personal time to give this bird the same or better quality care that it is accustom to. A godparent must also understand that lowering the quality of care the parrot receives may cause severe future behavior problems in the parrot.

The Godparent’s Promise

As a godparent to this parrot, I promise to be available to take care of this parrot in case of any emergency at any time. I promise to protect the adopted parrot, and duplicate the daily routine that the owner would give in their absence.

I promise to always give this parrot permanent shelter in a nurturing environment, provide proper nutrition by following a nutritious diet plan, keep its living quarters sanitary, and provide medical care if needed.

I promise to keep this bird healthy by allowing it to exercise daily, and keep it bathed weekly.

I promise I will never sell, breed, or trade a bequeathed parrot. If for any reason I can no longer care for this bird, I promise to return it to Parrots For Patriots Bird Rescue.

In case of emergency care, I will keep the bequeathed parrot in the same or better care as when I received it.

I will find a godparent for the parrot in the event I become the primary care giver. If I cannot find someone to be the godparent, I will assign Parrots for Patriots Bird Rescue adoption agency.
