Our mission at Parrots for Patriots is to honor and support our nation’s veterans and their spouses by connecting them with loving companion parrots that provide friendship, comfort, companionship, and meaningful lifelong bonds.

Our program was specifically created to serve veterans, both with and without PTSD, and their spouses. We believe that the extraordinary companionship of a parrot can bring joy, purpose, emotional comfort, and a special connection to the lives of those who have served our country.

We are committed to making parrot adoption affordable, accessible, and rewarding while ensuring that every parrot entrusted to our care is placed in a safe, loving, and permanent home.

Affordable Adoption Fees for Veterans and Their Spouses

As part of our commitment to honoring and supporting our veterans, Parrots for Patriots offers significantly reduced adoption fees exclusively for veterans and their spouses.

Adoption fees vary depending on several factors, including the parrot’s age, veterinary care, individual needs, and whether a replacement cage is required.

Our adoption fees are typically less than 50% of the retail cost of purchasing a comparable parrot from a breeder or pet store.

We believe that providing a loving home for a companion parrot should be affordable, and we work hard to make that possible for the veterans and families we serve.

To help our veterans and their spouses get off to a wonderful start with their new feathered companions, every adoption includes a complimentary care package valued at approximately $500!

At Parrots for Patriots, we believe that honoring our veterans means more than simply thanking them for their service. It means standing beside them, recognizing their sacrifices, and finding meaningful ways to make a positive difference in their lives.

No veteran should be denied the opportunity to experience the extraordinary companionship of a loving parrot simply because of financial hardship.

Our program was founded on that belief.

We understand that the cost of purchasing or adopting a parrot, along with providing a proper cage, nutritious food, toys, veterinary care, and other essential supplies, can be overwhelming. For veterans living on limited or fixed incomes, these expenses can place the dream of having a feathered companion beyond their financial reach.

That is why Parrots for Patriots works to make adoption affordable while providing continued support long after a parrot goes home.

Two Special Identification Cards for Every Veteran Adopter

Every veteran who adopts through our program is eligible to receive two personalized photo identification cards, each featuring a photograph of their adopted parrot and identifying the bird as having been adopted through the Parrots for Patriots program.

These special membership and discount cards represent more than proof of adoption. They symbolize a lasting connection to our organization and a growing community of people who believe in supporting those who have served our country.

Through our network of participating businesses, these cards help eligible adopters receive special discounts ranging from 10% to 25% on qualifying products and services offered by participating retailers and veterinary providers throughout the Northwest.

Our expanding network includes businesses offering discounts on:

  • Parrot food, seed mixes, and nutritional supplies.
  • Bird toys, enrichment products, and accessories.
  • Natural perches, cages, and other essential equipment.
  • Participating veterinary services and avian care.
  • Additional bird-related products and services offered by participating businesses.

We are continually building relationships with local businesses and working to extend these benefits to participating online retailers.

Our goal is to help make the ongoing responsibility of caring for a companion parrot more affordable throughout the bird’s lifetime.

We also welcome veterinarians, bird supply retailers, manufacturers, and other avian-related businesses that would like to participate in our growing network of supporters.

You Do Not Need to Be Struggling to Deserve a Companion

We recognize that some veterans may be experiencing loneliness, depression, PTSD, or other emotional and personal challenges. For some, the friendship and daily companionship of a parrot may provide comfort, a sense of purpose, and a meaningful connection.

But we want to make one thing perfectly clear:

You do not need to have PTSD, a disability, or any medical or emotional condition to qualify for our adoption program.

Our program serves veterans with and without PTSD, as well as their spouses.

We are committed to helping each eligible applicant find a parrot whose personality, needs, and temperament are well suited to their lifestyle, home environment, and experience.

In Addition we have a sit down 1 hour tutorial class going over 10 different categories about their new parrot including;

  • We go over your new parrots past parrot Bio records with the adopter and their Godparent.
  • Your new parrots proper recommended acclimation process.
  • Your new parrots recommended Diet, Seed/ Feed mix, fresh veggies and fruit. Also cooked foods with recipes too.
  • We also provide your new parrots’ first two weeks Seed or Pellet diet.
  • We also provide your new parrots’ first month packet of newspaper.
  • We also discuss your new parrots’ recommended Proper Bathing & Grooming instructions. In addition we include 2 different types of misting bottles.
  • We also discuss your new parrots’ projected upcoming possible behavioral and hormonal concerns.
  • We also discuss basic Parrot First Aid / How to Medicate. Also emergency treatments and local avian veterinary offices.*we no longer provide parrot first aid kits.
  • We also discuss any current Physical disabilities/limitations of their parrot/ also how to avoid future possible injuries.
  • We also discuss possible new Housing instructions if they decide to upgrade in the future. How to properly introduce your parrot to a new cage.
  • We also discuss emergency Procedures. We also supply 4 emergency contact refrigerator magnet cards for their neighbors and God Parent.
  • Also we go over our special adoption agreement offering emergency boarding in the event of any major accident.

Full of helpful information about birds!

Recently my husband and I adopted a wonderful African Grey Parrot from Parrots for Patriots. My husband has wanted his own bird for years. We’ve had an Amazon Blue Front for over thirty years, but it bonded with me as a hatchling and never with my husband.

Being better late than never, I searched for a bird rescue and was fortunate to find Parrots for Patriots. I filled out the application online and was soon contacted by Christopher Driggins. After speaking with Chris, you will find he is full of helpful information about birds! He is dedicated to the cause of rescuing birds and finding them appropriate loving homes.

After being placed on a waiting list, Chris was soon able to tell us he had the perfect bird for us…ZANE! Chris made a 3-hour road trip to bring Zane to us. He made sure Zane was comfortable, and that we were, too. He brought Zane’s cage, food, toys, books, everything we needed. It was a wonderful experience and we love our little Zane. Chris did in fact find us, the “perfect bird”. Zane has bonded with my husband! My husband, a former Marine, (Oops once a Marine, always a Marine!), LOVES this little bird! They spend a lot of time together and have lifted each other’s spirits.

This is a wonderful organization, and based on our experience, we highly recommend them!
