Lucy is a truly exquisite Yellow-Fronted Amazon who gets along well with both men and women. Her previous primary caregiver was a lady, and Lucy definitely responds more strongly and vocally to a female voice, tone, and laugh.
Please refrain from emailing or calling us in advance with questions. We will only respond to completed adoption applications submitted through our website.
Lucy is hand-tame and will step forward for either a man or a woman. She’s not much of a cuddler, but she does enjoy having the back of her neck scratched and loves attention—especially when she’s being spoiled with fresh chop and healthy treats.
At times, she can be a little cage-territorial, but overall, Lucy is a wonderful bird who would do best in a calm environment, preferably with a female adopter who has experience handling parrots. Lucy can be easily startled by sudden loud noises, so a peaceful home would be ideal.
Lucy enjoys being in the company of people or another bird. She tends to get lonely when left alone, so we’re hoping to find her a home where she’ll be part of daily life—not kept in a back room.
She’s been around both cats and dogs in the past and has even picked up a dog’s playful growl! However, Lucy truly prefers the company of a human or another parrot when no one else is home.
Lucy knows several words and phrases. So far, she says:
“Hi,” “Hello,” “Hi pretty bird,” “Hi pretty girl,” “Hi pretty Lu,” “Good girl,” “Hi Lulu,” “I love you,” “Hi love,” “Hi pup,” and “Bye” (which sounds more like “Eye!” but she says it when we’re leaving).
She also mimics our dogs’ playful growl (errrrrrr), our former cat’s meow (reow), a flicker, a crying baby, and even two-sided conversations between Tim and me—using a higher-pitched babble for me and a lower-pitched one for Tim. She’ll sometimes carry on babbling for quite a while (we call it her pontificating). Lucy “sings opera,” has a “fake” laugh, says “haha,” whistles, grumbles, growls, and makes all kinds of fun noises. She’ll happily “talk” back and forth with her human companion.
Lucy does not swear, and we’d like to keep it that way. With the right environment, we’re confident she’ll continue to learn even more.
She’s never lived in a home with children, so we’re unsure how she might react around them. She enjoys both music and television—especially cartoons and kid-friendly shows. Lucy has a great appetite for fresh fruits and vegetables and enjoys a wide variety of healthy human foods. She’s been very loved and spoiled in her past, and we’re seeking someone who can continue giving her the same care and attention she deserves.
Lucy is very special, and we’re looking for a very special home—ideally with someone who has at least one year of experience with parrots and can truly appreciate her wonderful personality.
