Foods to feed Parrots

Parrots for Patriots is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization headquartered in Vancouver, Washington.

Parrots for Patriots has no affiliation with any political party.

Parrots for Patriots launched in 2014 specifically to help veterans, both with and without PTSD, by providing them with companion parrots.

Our program is exclusively designed for veterans and their spouses. We are currently rehoming parrots in Oregon and Washington State, with plans to expand our program nationwide.

Parrots for Patriots adoption fees for veterans are very reasonable, typically less than half of the retail price of the parrot, and our fees include the parrot’s cage, a new parrot carrier, and our generous care package. The adoption fees may vary based on factors such as the parrot’s size, age, history, and accompanying accessories. However, all adoption fees are significantly less than 50% of the normal retail cost of purchasing a parrot from a pet store.

In addition, the veterans’ adoption fee covers various benefits, including toys, a custom parrot carrier, a two-week supply of specialized seed mix, toys, a WiFi camera, Lafeber’s Parrot Treats, a Magic Blender for fruit and veggie chop, and much more. Our veterans also receive a personalized, face-to-face tutorial on acclimating the parrot to its new environment. We provide comprehensive information on diet, behavioral traits, basic first aid, emergency procedures, and recommendations for parrot “Godparents.”

As part of our commitment to veterans, adopters are welcomed into a supportive network of other veteran parrot owners in their region. This network offers valuable assistance and guidance during emergencies or challenging situations.

Furthermore, veteran adopters have the option to purchase exclusive Manzanita products at wholesale cost. This opportunity extends our dedication to providing veterans with resources to enhance the well-being of their parrot companions.

At Parrots for Patriots, we strive to enrich the lives of veterans and their spouses while ensuring the happiness and welfare of our feathered friends.

If you’re interested in becoming a part of our program and providing a loving home for a parrot while benefiting from these valuable resources, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us.

Full of helpful information about birds!

Recently my husband and I adopted a wonderful African Grey Parrot from Parrots for Patriots. My husband has wanted his own bird for years. We’ve had an Amazon Blue Front for over thirty years, but it bonded with me as a hatchling and never with my husband.

Being better late than never, I searched for a bird rescue and was fortunate to find Parrots for Patriots. I filled out the application online and was soon contacted by Christopher Driggins. After speaking with Chris, you will find he is full of helpful information about birds! He is dedicated to the cause of rescuing birds and finding them appropriate loving homes.

After being placed on a waiting list, Chris was soon able to tell us he had the perfect bird for us…ZANE! Chris made a 3-hour road trip to bring Zane to us. He made sure Zane was comfortable, and that we were, too. He brought Zane’s cage, food, toys, books, everything we needed. It was a wonderful experience and we love our little Zane. Chris did in fact find us, the “perfect bird”. Zane has bonded with my husband! My husband, a former Marine, (Oops once a Marine, always a Marine!), LOVES this little bird! They spend a lot of time together and have lifted each other’s spirits.

This is a wonderful organization, and based on our experience, we highly recommend them!
